History

The history of SHINYEI, a company that has come to know the world well over the course of a history spanning three different centuries, is hereby introduced.

1887

SHINYEI KAISHA is founded primarily by executives of a national bank in order to newly establish a raw silk market, a major export item at the time. A business in line with national policy is commenced.

May 1887 SHINYEI is established as a limited liability company primarily by executives of the No. 38 Himeji National Bank.
Capital: 150,000 yen. Contributed to the formation of a raw silk market in Kobe as a wholesaler of raw silk.
June 1893 SHINYEI becomes a joint-stock company and is renamed SHINYEI KAISHA.

SHINYEI proposes quality improvements and an expansion of the industry in order to develop the silk industry. Business expansion is undertaken in order to reorganize the silk-reeling industry. .

March 1902 The general manager of Yokohama Branch proclaims the theory of silk-making, thereby contributing to the reorganization of the silk industry.
April 1915 A trading section is established and the exporting of textiles and sundries commences.

SHINYEI becomes a leading company in Japanese silk industry as measured in terms of the volume of raw silk handled. Its manufacturing division is expanded to help the company stake a central position in the industry as one of Japan’s foremost silk-reeling companies.

June 1925 The company name is changed to SHINYEI KIITO KAISHA.
May 1928 SHINYEI enters the silk thread manufacturing industry.
June 1929 New York Branch of the company is established as a base for the exporting of raw silk to the United States.

The manufacturing of capacitors is launched as a new business venture. In 1953, trade with China is commenced and the company expands to become the fourth largest domestic company engaged in trade with China. A textile processing operation is begun.

May 1943 The company name is changed to SHINYEI JITSUGYO CO., LTD.
September 1943 The company enters the electronics sector during the war and commences the production of capacitors.
March 1947 The company name reverts to SHINYEI KIITO KAISHA in line with the resumption of its silk yarn operations.
September 1948 Tokyo Branch is established to help expand the company’s commercial sphere of operations in the Kanto region.
May 1949 Company shares are listed on both Tokyo and Osaka stock exchanges.
April 1951 The company begins operations as a raw silk broker in both Kobe and Yokohama.
June 1952 Trade with China is commenced immediately upon the signing of the Japan-China Trade Agreement.
December 1958 SHINYEI CORP. OF AMERICA is established in New York with the aim of expanding trade with the United States.

SHINYEI is designated a “friendly trading company” by China in 1961 ahead of the normalization of bilateral relations between China and Japan. The company develops a polypropylene film capacitor in 1965 and develops and commercializes a high polymer humidity sensor in 1977.

December 1961 SHINYEI is designated a “friendly trading company” by China.
April 1965 A polypropylene film capacitor is developed.
August 1966 The company name is changed to SHINYEI KAISHA upon taking over subsidiaries SHINYEI DENKI CO., LTD. and OITA SEISHI CO., LTD.
April 1967 A new head office building is completed in Kyomachi, Chuo-ku, Kobe.
January 1970 Osaka Branch is established. Efforts to expand the company’s textiles division are undertaken.
November 1970 The first ever metal oxide humidity sensor is developed.
December 1977 A high polymer humidity sensor with dramatically improved performance in terms of humidity measurement is developed.

A new corporate identity is adopted to commemorate the company’s centennial. SHINYEI embarks on its second century of existence pursuant to a new management philosophy. An R&D facility is set up to reinforce the company’s strengths in the field of electronics.

March 1983 Raw silk production is discontinued while the company’s trading and electronics divisions are expanded.
September 1985 KYUSHU SHINYEI ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. is established in Nakatsu-shi, Oita Prefecture.
May 1987 SHINYEI commemorates its centennial.
November 1987 SK BUILDING MATERIALS CO., LTD. is established upon taking over certain operations from housing-related divisions.
May 1989 SHINYEI SINGAPORE PTE. LTD. is established in Singapore.
Capacitor sales in the southeast Asian market are reinforced.
June 1989 CHUO KENKYUSHO (formerly known as KOBE TECHNO CENTER) is established in Kobe High-Tech Park located in Nishi-ku, Kobe.
This facility is set up to serve as a research and development base for electronic equipment and parts.

SHINYEI launches a frozen foods business and commences the overseas production of capacitors. SHINYEI’s head office building is rebuilt after being destroyed by the Great Hanshin Earthquake, signaling the dynamic emergence of a new and improved company.

July 1992 SHINYEI KAISHA ELECTRONICS (M) SDN. BHD. is established in Malaysia
The production of capacitors in Malaysia is commenced.
January 1995 The company’s head office building is destroyed in the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
June 1995 The company relocates its head office to Higashimachi, Chuo-ku, Kobe.
December 1997 SHINYEI (SHANGHAI) TRADING CO., LTD. is established in China in order to expand operations in China.
January 1998 SHINYEI ELECTRONICS CORP. OF AMERICA is established in San Diego.
Sales of capacitors in the United States are reinforced.
March 1998 A new head office building is rebuilt on the original site of the company’s head office in Kyomachi, Chuo-ku, Kobe.
July 1998 SK ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. is established in Ayabe-shi, Kyoto.
April 1999 SK LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD. is established.

January 2000 SHINYEI CAPACITOR CO., LTD. is established in Tobumachi, Chiisagata-gun, Nagano (the present Tomi City).
A global, two-pronged operational framework is arranged with a local corporation based in Malaysia.
December 2000 SHINKYOWA CO., LTD. joins the SHINYEI Group to expand our housing and materials-related businesses.
February 2001 YOSHIDA SEIKI CO., LTD. joins the SHINYEI Group to expand our electronics-related business.
April 2002 The building materials business is integrated into SK BUILDING MATERIALS CO., LTD. and the company name is changed to SHINYEI MATERIALS CO., LTD.
November 2002 VOICE OF SK CO., LTD. is established to expand our textiles business.
February 2003 FUJIKURA SHOJI CO., LTD. joins the SHINYEI Group to expand our housing and materials-related businesses.
March 2003 SHINYEI BUSINESS ENGINEERING SERVICES CO., LTD. is established to facilitate the use of intellectual knowledge belonging to the Group for service consulting functions.
April 2007 The electronics-related business is integrated into Kyushu SHINYEI ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. and the company name is changed to SHINYEI TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.
July 2008 SHINYEI BUSINESS ENGINEERING SERVICES CO., LTD. is taken over by SHINYEI MATERIALS CO., LTD. to facilitate the greater use of intellectual knowledge belonging to the Group and the company name is changed to SHINYEI BUSINESS SERVICE CO., LTD.
March 2009 R&D Center is established to encompass all business fields of the Group on Port Island Phase II in Chuo-ku, Kobe.
August 2009 MARUOKA SHOJI CO., LTD. and PM PLANNING CO., LTD. join the SHINYEI Group to expand our textiles business.
February 2010 SHINYEI AGRI & FOODS CO., LTD. is established to expand our foodstuffs business.
February 2011 SHINYEI CAPACITOR CO., LTD. is established corresponding environmental transformation of electronic industries.
November 2011 In order to maximize the function of trading and the specialty of  real estate & insurance, SHINYEI BUSINESS SERVICE CO., LTD. and NCD CO., LTD (former FUJIKURA SHOJI CO., LTD.) are merged, and SHINYEI LIVING INDUSTRY CO., LTD is established.
February 2012 SHINYEI SHOJI (QINGDAO) TRADING CO., LTD. is established in order to expand our foodstuffs and materials business in China.
December 2013 SHINYEI AGRITECH CO., LTD. is established to conduct research and development of agriculture-related business.
March 2014 For reorganization of foodstuffs business, absorption type company split is done to form SHINYEI AGRITECH CO., LTD. on agricultural business of cultivation and sales of fresh vegetables conducted by SHINYEI AGRI & FOODS CO., LTD.
November 2014 SHINYEI LIFETEX CO., LTD. is established to agilely promote apparel and textile business, coping with the changes of business environment.
February 2015 SHINYEI TESTING MACHINERY CO., LTD. is established to expand the business of Drop & Shock Testing Devices and Railway Vibration Measuring Instruments.
April 2015 GRANDY CO., LTD. joins the SHINYEI Group to expand apparel and textile business and strengthen development and presentation capabilities.
Fukuoka Branch is established to help expand the company’s commercial sphere of operations in the Kyushu and Okinawa region.
July 2015 For reorganization of apparel and textile business, absorption type company split is done to transfer to SHINYEI LIFETEX CO., LTD apparel retail business conducted by MARUOKA SHOJI CO., LTD.
September 2015 SHINYEI Group Awara Agricultural Center is established in Awara City, Fukui Prefecture, as a head office of SHINYEI AGRITECH CO., LTD. engaged in agricultural business and also as a research & development facility for agriculture related business.
October 2015 SHINYEI (THAILAND) CO., LTD. established in Bangkok, Thailand starts doing business activities for the purpose of expanding foodstuffs business in Southeast Asian countries.
April 2017 For reorganization of apparel and textile business, absorption-type merger is done to consolidate GRANDY CO., LTD. into SHINYEI LIFETEX CO., LTD. to further promote legwear business.
Company name is changed to SHINYEI HOME CREATE CO., LTD. from SHINKYOWA CO., LTD. reflecting its will to promote new business development beyond its existing business.
